With the news focusing on the relaxation of the two-metre social distancing rule on 4 July, many businesses, including motor traders will be thinking how they can go back to a new normal.
The news means that motor traders could resume accompanied test drives within the next couple of weeks. For most insurance policies, this is already a standard cover.
In a statement, the Prime Minister said, “Given the significant fall in the prevalence of the virus, we can change the two-metre social distancing rule, from 4th July”.
“Where it is possible to keep two metres apart people should. But where it is not, we will advise people to keep a social distance of ‘one metre plus’”.
Currently, some traders are implementing a two-metre rule by doing unaccompanied test drives on trade plates. This followed a relaxation of the rule by the DVLA, which Road Runner’s parent company Aston Lark, along with the IMDA, helped lobby for.
With the change of social distancing rules coming into play, accompanied test drives seem more likely, perhaps from the back seat. Cars would likely need to be well ventilated and face masks worn by both prospective buyer and seller.
Anyone selling vehicles and undertaking accompanied test drives would take note of any new changes to the Government guidelines and take necessary precautions, including:
- Avoid sitting face-to-face when dealing with customers
- A reduction in amount of people in an enclosed space
- Improving ventilation in vehicles and workshops
- Using protective screens and face coverings where possible
- Washing hands and using hand sanitisers
