Jake Hill lifts trophy after securing BTCC Independent win at Snetterton

A brilliant weekend at Snetterton, the penultimate race event of the 2020 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season saw Jake Hill take his fifth podium.

Jake Hill continued his superb run of form, with the team MB Motorsport’s first win in the fiercely competitive Independent Drivers category at a chilly Snetterton race circuit.

A new format for qualifying saw reigning champion Colin Turkington getting the top spot, but Jake Hill still took top qualifying for the Independent category.

Jake said: “So close! The car was great in practice and qualifying, so I’m confident we will be in good shape for the races.”

The Snetterton circuit had been left cold and damp in places from overnight rain but was dry enough for the drivers to start on slick tyres. Turkington and Ingram edged ahead of Hill into turn one.

Hill began catching again quickly, and then then on lap 5 a better exit from turn one saw Hill down the inside at Montreal, but Ingram ‘closing the door’ very late, resulting in contact, the Toyota sideways and Hill now up to P2.

However, in a great show of sportsmanship, Jake decided to give the position back to Ingram to avoid repercussions afterwards with the officials, prompting discussions from several experts.

As the race ran down, Hill managed the gap to both Ingram and Rory Butcher behind, taking a well-judged run to another podium with a P3 finish, but crucially a first BTCC Independent Category win of 2020.

“So pleased for the team and my crew – shame I couldn’t get past Tom – but delighted to have taken that Independent win,” Jake reflected.

Jake picked up more points from race two, which saw him finish P5 and in race three, Jake earned another top ten finish with a P9.

On the final round of the BTCC season, Jake said: “Brands Hatch is my ‘home’ circuit – I am determined to go well there, and finish strongly so I will be doing all I can to work with the team to make sure we are in the best shape possible.”

Road Runner are proud to support Jake Hill for the 2020 British Touring Car Championship season.

The final weekend of the 2020 BTCC season takes place at Brands Hatch on 14th/15th November.
